Wantage and Grove Station

Previous Attempts to Re-Open the Station.

Oxfordshire County were granted outline planning permission (reference P05/V0738/O) for a new station in January 2008. However, that permission lapsed and the location proposed in those plans is no longer available.

In June 2009 the Association of Train Operating Companies produced a report called 'Connecting Communities'. This looked at “opportunities to connect communities which have grown in recent years but which do not have good access to the rail network” and which could be delivered relatively quickly. Part of this report identified seven towns with a population of 15,000 or more that could be served by new park & ride stations on existing lines. One of these was Wantage/Grove which was estimated to have a benefit to Cost Ratio of 3.8.

A summary of attempts to re-open the station was carried out by Hanney Parish Council in 2016 as part of the preparation of their Neighbourhood Plan and can be seen here:  https://www.easthanneyparishcouncil.org.uk/uploads/wantage-railway-station.pdf
